WDRB Political Reporter Lawrence Smith is leaving the Louisville-based Fox affiliate and joining the Kentucky Baptist Convention where he will serve as their communications director.
Smith, 64, has been with WDRB for nearly 10 years and in television news for nearly three decades, he will sign off with WDRB in mid-January 2022 and transition to serving the Baptist Convention in his new role as the executive editor of Kentucky Today.
The journalist will replace Brandon Porter who left Kentucky Today in August for the position as editor of Baptist Press.
“I was not looking for another job, but after I was approached about this role, God made it clear that He wanted me to spend the next season of my career serving the 2,500 churches of the Kentucky Baptist Convention,” he wrote in an email to WDRB staff on Thursday, according to their report.
Smith is a veteran of the Kentucky press corps covering the General Assembly and is a frequent guest on KET’s Comment on Kentucky.
