Former Democratic Kentucky House and Senate candidate Amy McGrath has a new gig thanks to the White House.
McGrath has been appointed as a member of the Board of Visitors to the U.S. Naval Academy, the White House announced on Tuesday.
The Kentuckian is a U.S. Naval Academy graduate who served as a Marine F/A-18 pilot and weapons systems officer with three combat deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. McGrath has a history dating beyond her time spent in the academy as a student, she also served at the academy teaching political science.
“I’m honored to be appointed by President Biden to the US Naval Academy’s Board of Visitors. @USNA is my alma mater and I’m thrilled to be alongside the other distinguished new members helping to shape the proud institution, and the future leaders of our Navy and Marine Corps,” McGrath wrote of her appointment.
The mission of the Board of Visitors on which McGrath will serve is to “inquire into the state of morale and discipline, the curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other matters relating to the academy which the Board decides to consider,” according to the Naval Academy.
The Board of Visitors consists of six members appointed by the President, three appointed by the Vice President, four appointed by the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, one designated by the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, and one designated by the U.S. House Armed Services Committee. The President of the United States receives an annual written report of the Board’s findings and recommendations.
In 2021, McGrath joined the University of Kentucky Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce for the Fall 2021 semester teaching National Security Policy. She also founded Honor Bound, Inc. a 501(c)(4) nonpartisan organization committed to leadership development for women with a service background and encouraging those women to run for elected office.
