Kim Holloway, the 2nd House District Republican challenger to Rep. Richard Heath from Mayfield, has been disqualified from the GOP primary due to a technicality with her filing paperwork.
As Kentucky Fried Politics previously reported, A supporter of Heath’s filed a motion seeking to remove Holloway on the grounds that one of the people who signed her candidate filing paperwork with the Secretary of State’s Office is not a registered Republican.
In effect, Heath’s campaign is pointing to a law KRS 118.125(2) that calls for at least two people who sign a candidate’s paperwork to be a citizen of the district or jurisdiction where the election is taking place and a registered voter of the same party.
As the court has disqualified Holloway from running for the GOP nomination, she is pointing a finger back at the GOP and vowing to run against Heath as a write-in candidate.
Holloway posted screen shots of documents from the Graves County Sheriff which show Heath was subpoenaed by the court to testify in the civil case seeking her removal as a bonafide candidate. Deputies were unable to serve Heath as he did not respond to telephone messages or multiple attempts to contact him, according to the documents.
The 2nd District House seat is unopposed by Democrats. Heath has already started a campaign for Agriculture Commissioner in the 2023 Republican primary.
