The Kentucky General Assembly will be called back into an extraordinary special session next month, Gov. Andy Beshear told reporters on Monday.
Lawmakers are being asked to craft a comprehensive bill to offer relief to Eastern Kentucky flooding victims. The legislation will be comparable to the relief bill passed in the regular session for victims of the Western Kentucky tornados.
“Special session will happen. Everybody is committed to it. We are having in-depth conversations about what the legislation itself looks like,” Beshear said. “My hope is we could see it even within the next four weeks.”
Beshear told reporters the time frame is based on when legislative leaders and the governor can reach an agreement on what is contained in the legislation.
“Everybody is just trying to be constructive and trying to get it in the best place possible,” he said.
