Journalists at the Louisville Courier-Journal are unionizing in an effort to raise their salaries and morale at the newspaper.
The Courier-Journal Guild shared the news on Tuesday, with a list of demands for their parent company Gannett.
The journalists are asking for a system of pay raises “to reward institutional knowledge and commitment to Louisville.” They are also seeking equity in salaries. They also want to drop a paywall on stories that include “the public’s interest, including those on natural disasters and COVID-19.
The journalists are planning to release a community petition in support of the effort to collectively bargain.
