The economic engine of Kentucky officially has a new executive at its helm.
Craig Greenberg was sworn in as the 51st Mayor of Louisville on Monday, January 2, in front of Governor Andy Beshear, First Lady Britainy Beshear, members of the Metro Council, state Senators, state Representatives, and judges.
Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Angela McCormick Bisig initiated the oath of office for Mayor Greenberg, who is only the fourth person to hold the office of Louisville Mayor since 1986.
Mayor Greenberg’s inaugural address laid out his vision for the city.
“Over the past few years I’ve spoken with thousands of residents across Louisville. To everyone who shared stories with me: I heard your love for our city. I heard your hopes and your frustrations, and the reasons you’re concerned about the direction our city may be heading in. I heard you say over and over that you want to take our city in a new direction.” Mayor Greenberg said. “So, let’s get moving. Starting now, my team will focus the energy of Metro Government and our community on making Louisville a safer, stronger, and healthier city.”
Mayor Greenberg shifted the structure of the the Mayor’s senior leadership team after his election. The team includes Deputy Mayors Barbara Sexton Smith, Nicole George, David James, and Dana Mayton. David Kaplan will serve as Chief of Staff and General Counsel while Keisha Dorsey will serve as Deputy Chief of Staff.
Mayor Greenberg also announced Deputy LMPD Chief Jackie Gwinn-Villaroel will be promoted to Interim Chief of Police. Gwinn-Villaroel assumes her new role on January 2nd.
