Former Eastern District U.S. Attorney Kerry Harvey has been named by Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Kentucky, as his new Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary.
Harvey had been serving the Beshear administration as the Public Protection Cabinet secretary.
“I have been blessed to have leaders in my administration who have tremendous talent and breadth of knowledge and experience,” Beshear said in a news release. “The appointments I am announcing today will play to the strengths of these capable professionals and allow us to continue to build that better Kentucky we all want for our families.”
Prior to joining the Beshear administration, Harvey served as U. S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, where he oversaw the prosecution of Timothy Longmeyer et al. Longmeyer served as Beshear’s former Deputy Attorney General and his father, Gov. Steve Beshear’s, Secretary of Personnel Cabinet. Longmeyer was sentenced for soliciting and accepting kickbacks.

Beshear has asked me to lead the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet,” Harvey said in a statement. “The cabinet plays a vital role in ensuring that the citizens of our commonwealth live in a society that is both safe and just. I look forward to working with the team at the cabinet in pursuit of these inseparable ideals.”
Harvey takes over the role after former Secretary of the Justice and Public Safety Mary Noble resigned July 15.
