U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-New York, could be coming to Kentucky next year in support of state Rep. Attica Scott, D-Louisville, as she campaigns for the open 3rd Dist. Congressional seat.
With the retirement of longtime Congressman John Yarmuth, D-Louisville, at the end of 2022, Democrats running to replace him will be pulling out all the stops to win their party’s nomination, and for Scott that could be turning towards the far-left wing of the party.
The rumors are not confirmed, but multiple sources indicate Scott will bring AOC to Louisville to campaign for her next year.
The current state Representative challenged Yarmuth before he opted to retire from the seat to spend more time with his family. Scott’s move to challenge Yarmuth cost her support amongst many in Kentucky Democratic circles.
The Louisville Democrat is an activist who steers towards the policies of the far left in Congress like the Green New Deal and Medicare for All, and Scott could use the star status of AOC to kickstart her campaign in 2022.
State Sen. Morgan McGarvey, D-Louisville, has also filed for the seat earning the endorsement of virtually every prominent Kentucky Democrat.
