Former President Donald Trump is reiterating his support of Attorney General Daniel Cameron in Kentucky’s GOP Gubernatorial primary.
Trump released a video on Monday, seven months before the primary, lauding Cameron as his choice for Kentucky governor.
“What I do and what I say is very very special,” Trump says in the video. “Daniel Cameron is a person who is going to be a great governor. Your Attorney General he’s been amazing. He’s a good man. He’s a friend. He’s loyal.”
“He’s strong on crime. He’s strong on the border. He’s strong in everything you want him to be strong on,” Trump continued. “He loves our military. He loves our vets and he will always take care of them and law enforcement – number one above all. He’s with them and he’s with stopping crime.”
The video comes as Trump has stepped up his rhetoric surrounding Cameron’s mentor, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell. Trump recently wrote that McConnell has a “DEATH WISH,” adding racist comments toward McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, a Taiwanese-American who also served as transportation secretary for the former president. Cameron has not commented on the message from Trump.
The Kentucky Attorney General trails in fundraising in the GOP primary behind Trump’s former United Nations Ambassador Kelly Craft and Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles.
