Former Kentucky state Rep. Darryl Owens, D-Louisville, has passed away.
Owens represented the 43rd House District from 2005 to 2018, where he served as the chairman of the Judiciary Committee. In 2018, he opted not to seek re-election to the post he considered to be his highest honor. He carried and passed felony expungement for non-violent felons through the state House in 2016 after years of effort.
Owens was a graduate of Louisville Central High School, Central State University, and Howard University School of Law.
A swell of sympathy was released following news of his passing with many across Louisville and Kentucky sharing stories and offering condolences to his family and wife, Brenda.
