A Jefferson County Public Schools employee is the first Democrat officially in the race for the newly created vacant 34th District House seat.
Jonathan Lowe a Jefferson County Public Schools Policy and Systems Administrator filed paperwork with the Kentucky Secretary of State on Friday declaring his candidacy for Kentucky State Representative in the newly drawn 34th district.
“Despite the challenges we face, Kentucky is a place of amazing hope and opportunity, because of the power, brilliance, and resilience of its people,” Lowe said in a news release. “With the right leadership, political will, and smart policy solutions, we can build a better Kentucky for everyone.”
“From great public education to creating a thriving economy, from providing high quality child care to building a robust renewable energy infrastructure, there is much we can do to improve the lives of working Kentucky families,” he continued. “I am part of a growing and diverse coalition of Kentuckians who have a bright vision for new possibilities in the Commonwealth, and want to help lead the way.”
Other potential candidates are considering the race. The new legislative districts have passed the Kentucky General Assembly, but have not yet been signed by Gov. Andy Beshear.
The filing deadline was pushed back to Jan. 25.
