U.S. Sen. Rand Paul is aligning with President Trump and offering his support to Rep. Liz Cheney’s Republican Congressional opponent in Wyoming.
Paul issued a testimonial in support of Harriet Hageman, the former Wyoming national Republican committeewoman, via his affiliated Protect Freedom Super PAC on Monday.
“I’ve stood strong against the mandates of Dr. Fauci, but I need help. That’s why I’m endorsing Harriet Hageman for Congress,” Sen. Paul said in a statement. “I know Harriet will join me in demanding that Fauci is immediately fired and removed from office.”
Hageman recently won a Congressional straw poll held by Republican activists. Trump has endorsed the Wyoming Republican as he seeks to play a role in unseating Cheney, who has been censured by the national Republican Party for her part in investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
Paul’s endorsement moves in lock-step with his affiliated Super PAC endorsed Hageman in Wyoming.
Protect Freedom PAC has had independent expenditure campaigns totaling $11.5 million since 2018, according to the group.
“Harriet represents the spirit of Wyoming, which is full of people who want to live their lives without the oppressive weight of the federal government on their backs,” Paul continued in his endorsement. “Harriet isn’t afraid to speak up, and I know she has the courage to stand with me to defeat the Washington machine.”
Protect Freedom PAC is seeking to expand its reach in 2022, after endorsing and supporting candidates for statewide and federal offices in 2018 and 2020. The organization was founded by a team of veterans of the Donald Trump, Ron Paul, and Rand Paul campaigns for President.
“Senator Rand Paul has been a champion of liberty and freedom, and he knows that Harriet Hageman is the only pro-freedom, liberty-minded candidate in this race,” said Protect Freedom PAC spokesman Michael Biundo. “The people of the great state of Wyoming deserve better than RINO Liz Cheney. Harriet Hageman is a proven leader with a solid record of fighting for liberty and freedom. She’s ready to join Rand Paul and take the fight to Washington to stand firm for the people of Wyoming.”
Paul is seeking a third term in the U.S. Senate in Kentucky this year.
