Humphreys dug deep into the historical archives researching a region of Kentucky often overlooked in the political history of the Commonwealth. Western Kentucky produced seven Democratic governors until the region shifted toward a Republican identity.
In his book, Humphreys details the arc of history and in the interview, he talks about what led to Democratic declines and how the area has become a GOP stronghold.
